1 in 5 U.S. adults (53 million) are now caregivers, 10 million more people than in 2015. Almost 42 million caregivers are taking care of an adult who is 50+ years old. This economic and health crisis has disproportionately affected people of color. Many who are left to take care of a loved one for the first time.
Few of us are ready to accept death. Too often, we remain in denial when our loved one is dying. We become irrational actors when confronted by death — we fail to get our act together and to get our house in order.
In other words, we, as amateur caretakers, need help taking care of our loved ones.
